"This can't be happening," I whispered, saying a silent prayer for Mr. Summers as I looked at Mrs. Summers' still body lying in a red, velvet-lined coffin. "Charly, is that you?" I turned from her coffin to see who had spoken to me. "Mr. Summers, I'm so sorry about Mrs. Summers," I said, seeing him standing about three feet away from me. "Thank you. How are you holding up? Are you all right?" Mr. Summers asked, knowing what I was going through. "I'm all right, but I'm really going to miss her. She was a great teacher as well as a friend to many of her students," I replied, my voice cracking. "I know. Ruth loved her students, and they loved her. She talked about them constantly, but she loved you the most," he said, hugging me as a lone tear slid down my cheek. He didn't try to make me stop crying, but rather, let my emotions take over. Mr. Summers drove me back to his house after the funeral. We sat and talked about Mrs. Summers' death. The first words out of my mouth after I sat down were, "Why her? Why now?"

Charly looses a dear friend and doesn't deal with it well. To help her her parents send her to a hospital. Charly's help comes in the form of a fellow classmate. He shows her that life is worth living and helps her start to heal. But is it enough to overcome?
About the Author
Jennifer Cevaal fell in love with writing when she was in middle school. Inspired by the knowlegde that author S.E. Hinton was published at age seventeen, Jennifer wrote her first book as a freshman in high school and determined that it would be published one day. 'The Love That Saved My Life' is that book, the first of many Jennifer hopes to publish. Aside from her love of writing poetry, short stories, and books, Jennifer is a McDonalds manager who loves country music, crocheting, and concerts. She is a lifelong Wisconsin resident, and she currently lives in Sheboygan with her cat, Ruby.
