Goodness me, when you read of Govan you know every meaning of them because having grown up there in that era, you saw it all, but fortunately someone called Sonny Devine manages to put it into a different and beautiful language.”

About the Author

Hugh Francis Devine was born December 19th 1920 in the burgh of Govan. He was raised there and attended schools, St. Anthony’s, St. Kentigern’s, St. Mungo’s and finally the University of Glasgow. Whilst mourning the death of his mother, he quit university, joined the R.A.F. and went to war for his country. After the war was over, he returned home to Govan and again took up studies at Glasgow University graduating with a Master of Arts Degree.
