It was also interesting that Liam knew more about Faulkner and Corrigan than police departments around the country, which had found nothing concerning either man. Faulkner was a Fed, an official of some sort, and there was nothing on him. Corrigan was a non-person with no paper trail and didn't appear to exist; yet of the two he was the significant and ever present danger.
Near the Harding Mountain cut-off, high beam headlights came from around one of the switchbacks and shone directly in his path. He pulled the truck over as far ad he could on the narrow road, took his foot from the gas and braked slowly. His first thought was a drunk driver, but he quickly changed his mind as the large van made a bee-line straight at him.
Ram twisted the steering wheel to the right in an attempt to land in the ditch upright and possiblt get by the other vehicle. It was a lost cause. The truck rammed him on the left rear quarter panel and spun the SUV around. The truck never stopped or even slowed as it roared off down the road and disappeared around the nexy bend with the sound of screeching metal coming from its front end. Ram climbed out to assess the damage. Liam's old vehicle was going nowhere. Not an accident but one more attempt to take another player out of the action.
Walking toward Huntsville five miles away, he wondered why their enemies wanted them dead when the department was all but discredited right now. Being a cop meant nothing to these people and killing didn't seem to make sense when they could dump his ass in prison for any trumped up charge they wanted to come up with. Lots of questions - no answers.
