Look on me and answer, O LORD my God. Give light to my eyes, or I will sleep in death; my enemy will say, "I have overcome him,” and my foes will rejoice when I fall. Psalm 13: 3-4 Help! I’m about to die? Are you sure you want to learn to soar? It means that you will have to leave the comfort of the nest and the certainty of having food brought to you. Fortunately you don’t decide. The mother eagle knows by instinct when the time is right and starts the process of rustling the nest. Then she entices the young one to come for a ride on her back. As soon as the eagle starts enjoying the ride, it is flicked off into the air. It has a choice, screech and crash to its death or spread its wings and soar. Of course the mother is close by to help but no intervention is made until what appears to be almost certain death. At that point the mother eagle flies in and bears the eaglet up on her wings. Can you identify with that startled eaglet? Does that put perspective on things? God seems distant while you feel that you are about to crash to your death? What can you do? Stretch out those wings of faith and trust the wind of the Holy Spirit to lift you up. You need to learn to soar. He’s right there watching you ready to intervene when the time is right. Listen to what God said to the Israelites, thousands of years ago. It is written in Exodus 19:4, “You yourselves have seen what I did to Are these promises relevant to you? Stretch out your wings and see. |

The author reminds us that whenever bad things happen, as they will, God is always at work and we should trust Him.
