Days of Agony

It had been nothing but a miracle to survive the genocide that occurred in April 1994, in Rwanda. With the war seeming to end, Sofia and her younger sister Rose returned home from the exile with their Grandpa Alexander. Sofia had just turned fifteen and her sister was two years younger.

    When their parents and younger brother got killed, it seemed nothing will ever be the same again.

   Meanwhile, Sofia wanted to go back to school, but Alexander didn’t support her idea, instead he wanted her to get married. She followed her dreams, her passion of becoming a doctor and she left Rose in the village with their alcoholic grandfather.

   When she moved in the city, to stay with her aunt Patricia, she met Kevin, her classmate, who was kind and attractive; it seemed that fate was far from finished with her. However, Sofia’s worst fears are confirmed when she found out she was pregnant after the death of her sister in childbirth at fifteen years of age. Then Sofia was evicted from her aunt’s house, and she was obliged to move in Juliette’s house, Kevin’s mother.

      After having a stillborn and a miscarriage, Sofia seems trapped into abusive life with Kevin and she was sure that life must have more in store for her, and then she moved out. There was nothing worse when things were going wrong than the feeling that no one cared about her.

    When her neighbours, a married couple, Chris and Rebecca offered to take her in, it seemed an offer too tempting to refuse. They were about to change her life forever when Chris helped her to go to America to continue her education. But her dreams are shattered again when she finds out she’s carrying a set of triplet…..
