What do you do if you're taking a deposition at someone's house, and their cat or dog is trying to sit in your lap or you're allergic to cats and it's licking your hand while you're trying to write?
This sounds so funny. It's actually happened to me three times that I can remember. Once a cat sat in my lap and kept rubbing against my arms while I was trying to write. No one did anything. I couldn't believe they could be so dense. I finally picked the cat up and put it on the floor. It promptly jumped back in my lap. I finally had to ask the owner to put it up in another room until we were done.
Another time I had a dog that kept licking me, with very bad breath, by the way, during the entire deposition. The attorneys just kept laughing. It was not funny. Stinky. I love dogs. I have six Poms but yuk.
The only thing you can do in these situations is politely ask the witness to put the pet in another room while the deposition is in progress and hope they don't mind or take offense. If not, you're in for a rough depo. Have fun.
