About the Book

Understanding Today’s Leadership
While Developing Your Own

Anyone who desires to become a leader, a manager, or team builder (however you wish to term it) has a plethora of resources at his disposal.  He can choose from hundreds of colleges and universities to study at; there are seminars and conferences given by professional speakers; and he can also turn to his bosses and peers.  However, he’ll soon find himself buried in more information and theories and “secrets” than he knows what to do with—and much of it conflicting!  So, what is he to do?

The truth is that true leadership comes from within, and what an aspiring leader or an established leader desiring to increase his successes really needs is to push aside all the excess of unnecessary clutter and get to the heart of the matter!  What is the essence of true leadership?  Is it the special techniques a leader uses?  Is it a “power nap”?  Is it psychological tricks a leader uses while gazing into a mirror in the morning?  Does he need twenty-five laws of leadership (and if so, why not forty)?

So much information abounds on this subject—some of it nonsense and some of it legitimate—that I felt it was time that a book was written that kept things real and explained the realities of true leadership while not overcomplicating things.  Herein you will find just that.  It’s time to get back to the bread and butter of leadership!

About the Author

Richard has worked with, trained, and mentored hundreds of CEO’s, company presidents, and senior executives though an international, business-development firm.  He has identified opportunities to evoke a positive change in their business practices and recommended the implementation of changes to effect their bottom-line profits.  Richard has over thirty years of senior-leadership experience in corporate, retail, and distribution sectors, both in union and non-union environments.  A former college instructor with a master’s degree in business management, he has managed teams as large as 480 in multi-task, cross-functional environments.  Richard has seen great accomplishments while being recognized by his peers as a leader in the industry.  In his career he has been labeled as the “go-to guy” to make changes and has been placed in positions to evaluate and execute change to affect profitability and bottom-line, net results.  These successes have not come without sacrifice and pain, as he’s had to work odd shifts and long hours.  However, with his vision and drive, Richard has become the leader he is today.

Outside Richard’s normal work environment, he has found time to dedicate to myriad other pursuits.  Foremost, he has raised a family of two wonderful daughters—Brandy and Nicole—alongside his long-time love, Fay, with whom he has been happily married since 1980.  A chief master instructor with over forty years of martial arts training, he was inducted into the Martial Arts Hall of Fame in 1996 and received a lifetime achievement award for his many accomplishments.  Furthermore, Richard has been recognized as a national authority on personal protection training.  To this day, he continues to train and mentor hundreds of martial arts students and instructors so that they, too, may become leaders.
