Unlike the Egyptians, the Romans did not engage in the practices of ceremonial and ritualistic embalming but the body of Drusilla was in a remarkable state of preservation - even superior to that of Fabius, Werner now observed as he studied the remains for the first time. It was indeed as Tyra had said, for there was a visage of royalty about the woman - a regal aloofness and a barely-concealed contempt for the death which had claimed her and which she had readily embraced. "Yes, my beauty," and his voice betrayed both wonderment and reverence and an underlying seductive tone as he saw again the great comeliness that both Adam and Fabius had been entranced by. "The title of queen is well-deserved in your case for you possess a flawless countenance which is perfection beyond that of any captured in Homeric hymn," and as he studied the head to which a small amount of hair was still attached, he glanced across at Tyra and then back down to the skull again and his expression was one of extreme concentration as he appeared to make mental comparisons between the two women. "Amazing - quite amazing," and they remained silent as they watched him at work. "Tyra, would you mind stepping a little closer to the light , my dear? I want them all to see this." As she moved out of the partial shadow cast by Adam and into the soft light of the nearest lamp, Werner exhaled loudly with the wonder of the moment and nodded in confirmation of his findings for it was, indeed, as he had suspected.

In the convivial atmosphere of one of Tyra's elegant dinner parties, their all-seeing and spiritualist friend, Sophie, announces an impending discovery which will not only give them all cause to reflect upon their pasts again but will also see them returning to Italy - not to the great city itself, but to the barren and parched scrubland where, it seems, the hand of man has not moved for an eternity. Within weeks of Sophie's prediction, a team of young archaeologists stumble - quite by chance, on something which when uncovered, will not only confound them with its intrigue and mystery and leave them searching for answers, but will also have far-reaching consequences - not just for Adam, Tyra and Sophie, but for the world of science and archaeology as the incredible truth behind the discovery is revealed.
About the Author
After thirty years in the quarrying industry, I have suddeny found myself a victim of the current economic downturn and am no longer employed by the once-great global giant whom, I thought, would always endure no matter what. On the brighter side I am now master of my own destiny once more and spend most days in the pleasant surroundings of other people's gardens doing those menial tasks which most of us deplore! I am also in the process of setting up my own Roman re-enactment group called Lindum Colonia Gladiatores and hope to be doing shows up and down the county next year.
