This Textbook, 21st Century Issues in America: An Introduction to Public Administration, Theory and Practice, is written for scholars as an introductory course in Public Administration at the undergraduate level. My goal is to create a framework and deep learning knowledge that will enable them to understand and make sense out of a complex and challenging social and economic issues that asks productive citizens to comprehend and deal fairly and openly with controversial topics as prejudice, racism, economic and social justice, cultural differences and pluralism, the recession, the economy, ill advised wars, inappropriate dress codes, crime and violence drugs, financial crises, and natural disasters.


About the Author

Dr. James E. Pittman is Chairperson and Professor of the Department of Public Administration located within the College of Business and Public Administration at Southern University at New Orleans. He holds a Ph. D. in Public Policy and Administration from Jackson State University, Jackson, MS; an MBA Degree in Business Administration from Jackson State University in Jackson, MS; and a B. S. Degree in Business Administration from the University of Southern Mississippi in Hattiesburg, MS. He is a member of the American Society for Public Administration (ASPA). His articles and reviews have appeared in the Journal of International Development Studies, Journal of Urban Education, Southern Journal of Urban Education, Journal of Public Affairs and Issues (JOPAI), Journal of Academy of Business Disciplines, Global Digital Business Review (GDBR), and Graziadio School of Business and Management Journal of Pepperdine University, Los Angeles, CA. He has consulted with various corporations, governments, community action agencies, and local planning agencies.
