They came by the boat loads to find a better life in the 1930s, but found loneliness and despair during the depression and WWII years. Revering, Reminiscing, Recordando: Bilingual Muses of a Centenarian emotionally reflects through verse one woman's journey from a Puerto Rican small town to one of the largest cities in America, New York City. The Spanish poems particularly express her love for her homeland, while the English prose reflect her loneliness and lack of companionship to encountering hope through poetic solace and joy with the family she nurtured throughout her 100 years.

About the Author

Santa (Santos) Pi nació el día primero de noviembre del 1908 en la Playa de Ponce, Puerto Rico. Su padre, Don Froilan Pi y Rodrigues, era originalmente de España y su mamá, Dona Dorotea Aneiro y Ramirez, original de la raíz de Borinquén, eran amantes de la lectura y expresión del idioma castellano. Por la falta de educación secundaria, Santos llevó siempre una tristeza en el persona. A pesar de todo, Santos fué aclamada por su pueblo.  En aquellos años su arte de declamadora era reconocido y aclamado.

En el año 1933, después de haber cumplido su jornada en Puerto Rico, Santos decidió embarcar a Nueva York. Los años siguientes fueron como una escuela donde aprendió a vivir una nueva vida junto a sus tres adoradas hijas. Aún Santos pudo triumfar a través de los desvelos, desamor y pobreza en su mundo.  Sus versos y poesías son la expresión de esa época de su vida.

          Hoy, la autora vive en las floridas junto a sus hijas. Dice Santos:
“Vivo con deseos de escribir y, sí se hace imposible, siempre puedo soñar.”                   

       
          Santa (Santos) Pi was born November 1, 1908 in La Playa de Ponce, Puerto Rico. Her father, Don Froilan Pi y Rodriguez, was originally from Spain and her mother, Doña Dorothea Aneiro y Ramirez, a native Borinquen, enjoyed Spanish literature and prose.

Lacking secondary education, Santos was always saddened by her limited education. Despite everything, Santos was recognized by her home town for her artistic recitations.

In 1933, Santos decided to leave Puerto Rico for New York, closing a chapter in her life. The following decades were like a school where she learned to live a new life with her three adored daughters. In the face of a friendless and poverty-stricken life, Santos triumphed over uncertainties in her world. Her verses and poems are the expression of her life’s epoch.
