Something about the handsome flirt in the butt-hugging Wranglers caught Clarice's attention. He smiled. Clarice returned his smile.
Marty, with drink in hand, sauntered over to her booth and took a nanosecond to take her in. She was much better looking up close he noticed.
She was soft and womanly. Soft wisps of hair had fallen loose and caught in the gold hoop earrings she wore. The white turtleneck sweater and cream-colored suede blazer she wore gave her a sensual look.
He couldn’t hide his impish grin even though her eyes were clearly telling him she was not easily intimidated by him. He liked that.
Clarice tried not to be too obvious about it as she noticed he wasn’t wearing a wedding band. At least he wasn’t a player, although she wasn’t naive enough to believe the lack of a wedding ring guaranteed anything.
He was wearing a crisp white shirt, open at the neck with sleeves rolled up and a pair of tan Italian loafers, without socks. . .so
“Hi, I’m Martin Blake. Mind if I join you?”
She smiled and indicated the opposite side of the booth. “Please, have a seat. My name is Clarice Ryan.”
He was exactly the kind of hottie she usually shied away from, but tonight she was in the mood for a little light banter. . .nothing more.
Because it was her forthright nature, she asked, “So, can you hold up your end of a conversation?”
He gave her a lop-sided smile and said, “With you? Oh yeah!”
