We heard footsteps lightly crossing the kitchen above our heads. Aunt Katrina was here. Aunt Katrina, the luggage gypsy, was coming downstairs to tell us all we needed to know to help Kelsey find the afterlife she deserved. My heart leapt in my chest as I became aware of foot falls descending the stairs.
The first person that came into view was Craig but then came Aunt Katrina. Everything that Craig’s parents are, she is not. She came down the stairs wearing about ninety-three separate colors and that was just the pattern on her blouse. Her hair was black with grey streaks in it. She wore it sort’a in the same style as a scarecrow might. She had on very thick glasses which made her eyes appear to be at least six inches in diameter. The scent of her perfume was also quite, staggering. Whatever it was, it had that strong fruity smell that would make most herbivores become meat eaters. She was the single strangest looking person I have ever met and all that weirdness was packed onto a frame only five feet tall.
“Dahlinks,” she said as she swept into the room with a very theatrical entrance. Her arms were raised high over her head as she closed distance with us. Nicole nearly recoiled in fear as Aunt Katrina saw her and made a bee-line move to hug her.
“Ack, you poor ting. How difficult this all must be fer you. Not to vorry, Aunt Katrina will help you, dahlink. Together ve shall get to da bottom of dis.” Then she spun on me.
Fear, can come in many forms. There is the fear of a dog, where you carefully approach the animal, watching for signs to see if it might attack. There is the fear of a dentist, where you can’t avoid him because its good hygiene so you brush your teeth trying to fend off that high pitch drill and the novocain needles in your gums. There is the feeling of fear you have waiting for your report card, knowing you are going to get grounded for failing gym. Then there is the fear that can only come from having someone or something charge you. I felt like the guy who wanted to run with the bulls in

Then almost as quickly as it had begun, I was free. Oxygen poured into my lungs. I was ALIVE!!

About the Book
For Caitlin and Nicole O’Connor two sisters from Massachusetts, the divorce of their parents and the death of their best friend was only the beginning of their problems. It now seems that there is a ghost in their house and a mystery to be solved as well. With the help of their grandmother, a dog named Dog, their next door neighbor Craig and a bizarre gypsy, the girls set out to form “The Soul Patrol” and try to uncover the reason why their friend Kelsey can’t cross over and be at peace.
With only a short amount of time on their hands, the girls must somehow deal with frozen windows, a talking doll, a wake, a singing alarm clock and a dark, shocking secret all the while learning that death is a part of life. “The Soul Patrol” will make you laugh, cry and reflect on how precious life is. But most of all, like the girls, you will learn that while family and friends may not be perfect, love given freely and without condition can solve any crisis and perhaps even bring a broken family, back together.
About the Author
Bruno has been writing short stories and poetry for most of his life. His passion for writing first became evident when he received honors at a young writers workshop at Lafayette College in Pennsylvania while still attending high school. He has contributed to several different periodicals over the years and continues to enjoy sharing his imagination with his friends and family through various creative outlets.
Bruno and his wife Claudia are raising their two "tween" age daughters. They live in northern New Jersey and are always busy transporting their kids from one social event to another.
The Soul Patrol is Bruno’s first full length novel and he is currently working on the second book in this series called “Five Against One” which should be released by the summer of next year.
