EXCERPT FROM CHAPTER ONE:
“Excuse me…I need to have all of y’all’s attention! I have a big announcement to make!”
Everyone quieted and looked at me expectantly. As I scanned each face, I felt like I was on fire with the love that had grown in my heart for each and every woman sitting before me. I thought of each of them as my sisters and while this was a great move for me personally, I didn’t know what I would do without the constant contact and availability of the phenomenal women in my inner-circle of best friends.
I took a sip of my drink to moisten my throat then began to speak.
“Once upon a time, a wise woman told me to try to find my calling. She said I should find something I loved to do and then find a way to make a living doing it. Well, at Emily’s suggestion, I did…and as you all know, I have been making great strides in my career with Trilogy Music. So much so, I’ve been presented with a fabulous opportunity and I just wanted to tell you all about it.”
“Well, get with it, then,” Myeisha said, always the most impatient member of our posse.
“Marcus has promoted me to Division Director!” I only told the bare minimum so as to ease all the ramifications of such a lofty promotion on them slowly.

“You’ve got to be shitting me?? How long were you going to keep this information to yourself? You had to have known before now,” Emily said sitting straight upright as if I’d jolted her with a stun gun.
“Yes, I knew about the position, but I have been really praying about it and weighing my options and trying to make sure I make the right decision.”

Her bright and positive disposition was calming. They each were so supportive, but eventually, the first tear fell from my eye signaling my fine-tuned attempt at not crying was weakening. That started us all up because we knew my leaving was the first time any of us had parted our six part connection ever since we’d met as a group over six years ago.
The ties binding us together were strong, so I was confident our friendship could prosper even if I was thousands of miles away. Besides, my new job afforded me a lot of time to travel and I planned to take plenty advantage of that perk.

She is the President and CEO of Prose Pros Publishing Company, under which she’s released her solo project Mixed Emotions and its soon-to-be-completed sequel, Tainted Relations. She has also co-authored three books with Shawnte’ Henderson of Toledo, OH, titled Where Friendship Lies, A Lover’s Deceit, and now, The Best Revenge. They will begin a new series in 2010.
