KETURAH - WHO WAS KETURAH?
After Sarah died Abraham married again. He chose Kerturah to be his wife. There is no record stating specifically where Keturah came from. We do know is that she and Abraham together had six sons and some daughters as well. Before he died gave these sons gifts and sent away to land in the East.
The word Keturah means “the perfumed one” and its origin is Arabia. This may indicate that she came from Arabia where Abraham sent her and their sons as is recorded in Genesis 25. There were the Keturah tribes in Northern Arabia on the edge of Palestine around the period she would have been alive. We know that some of Abraham’s sons integrated into these groups to the degree that overtime some of them lost their identity.
There are numerous stories but few images which have been handed down on both Sarah, Hagar or Keturah. However, there is one single image, that I have been able to locate, which purport represent these women together. It is the piece in the Venice Haggadah done in 1609, which is true to the Biblical portrayal. There we find Abraham, Sarah and Isaac front and center and the largest in size, and then on one side of them in front of their tent we see Hagar and Ishmael and on the other side we see Keturah and her six sons. This is a case where “a picture is worth a thousand words!”
While little is known of either woman there is enough evidence to show that they were distinct personalities who lived at different times, in different places, and surrounded by totally different cast of characters. Also, there exists evidence today that Ishmael, Isaac and Keturah’s six sons all have their own separate and distinct lineages through there was considerable intermixing. Keturah’s sons were Zimran, Jokoshan, Medan, Midian, Ishback and Shuah.
OVERVIEW OF ABRAHAM AND HIS SIX SONS WITH KETURAH
This work is focused primarily on Abraham, Keturah and their descendants. Hopefully it will inform many and spur others to delve into this subject more deeply than I and find truths and information lost long ago, and others that are hidden or forgotten and bring them to the fore for our learning. There is no slight at all intended to Abraham’s first born son, Ishmael who was a mighty man and the father of the twelve great tribes who constitute the origin of the Arab peoples. However, there is considerable information about him, the Arabs, and Moslems and this knowledge ensures that his legacy is sure. The same can be said of Abraham’s second son, his son of promise – Isaac, the father of Judism and Christianity. Their ongoing story is extremely well known and their descendants are without question of their origin as it has been well documented throughout history.
There are peoples in Asia, Arabia, Northern Africa and in many parts of Eastern, Northern, Western and in Southern Africa who are in search of their true history and their relationship to Abraham and. Many of these people are “non-white” Jews, could they be descendants of one of Abraham’s six sons by his wife Kerturah ?

About the Book
This book is about the Patriarch Abraham and his extended family. The people of the Jewish, Muslim and Christian beliefs all know that they are the children of Abraham. The people of each of these great faiths hold Abraham in extremely high regard, but over time their kinship has eroded due to a number of situations and circumstances.
This book strives to show that all mankind has a common beginning and that mankind and those in the three great faiths not only share a great common history but that they are tied together through the acts of Abraham and his descendants including Isaac, Ishmael and Keturah’s six sons. For it is through these men and their early descendants that we have the Jewish and Christian (Isaac); Muslim (Ishmael); and the majority of Keturah’s descendants are now also Muslim.
Herein we provide a fleeting glimpse of mankind from Adam though his early descendants to Noah and his three sons; then we focus on Noah’s son Ham so that we can look at his four sons – Cush the father of Ethiopia; Mizraim the father of Egypt; Phut the father of West Egypt and Libya; and also on Canaan whose descendants originated many nations. Here we also take a look at Noah and the famously alleged curse placed not on Ham but one of his sons and we try to discuss this matter from a factual rather than an emotional view.
In today’s world there are growing tensions and mistrust between these three communities (Jews, Muslims and Christians) but if they would take a close look at not only who they are but from where they came they might accept the fact that they are near kinsmen who have more in common than there are differences between them.
