He looked down at his watch – it was His dog was by his side and was pulling at its reins. He watched Shoab go through the gate and step out onto the common. He could see that he was heading straight for him. And if he looked up, he couldn’t fail not to see him. He pressed himself up hard against a branch, hoping that if Shoab did so happen to look up, he would only be partially visible. But as it was, he passed underneath none the wiser. Then Shoab stopped. Moments later, and he was able to relax. Shoab was taking out his pipe. He watched him light it, then puff vigorously away it, sending clouds of smoke billowing into the air. Shoab then reached down and let the dog loose. He followed it with his eyes as it bounded away into the distance, before continuing on with his walk. About the Book

About the Author
Guy Paulley was born in Plymouth, England. He has worked as a mental health nurse in most areas of psychiatric medicine. He later turned to education as a support tutor working with those with special educational needs. Then came a TEFL and a trip to Nanning, China where he has spent much time teaching in their educational system. He now has his own small language school which he runs jointly with his Chinese wife. Although he has written 'Mooncake and Other Stories in Poems and Prose', a book for children, 'The Promise' is his first full length novel..
