‘What the fuck do you think you’re doing?’
Holly spun around already knowing what she would see. Jason was on his feet and was looking at Holly’s new friend. He was moving towards them, flanked by Rick to his left; Rick was pulling a flick knife out of his pocket and Billy to his right, who lifted a revolver from his own jacket.
Curiously, the stranger smiled brightly as Billy and Rick stood behind Jason with their weapons drawn.
‘Do they make you feel strong?’ he asked as Jason approached, ‘I wonder if you would be so geared up for a fight if you were on your own without the backing of your…associates’
Jason’s face contorted with rage as the stranger spoke, he walked towards the man knowing Billy’s gun was directed at the stranger, who made no attempt to do anything about the weapon aimed at him, and he didn’t even flinch in the face of Jason’s anger.
‘Jason, I…’ Holly started as Jason approached the man,
‘Shut up!’ he shouted at her as he advanced on Holly’s new friend.
He pushed Holly roughly aside and squared up to the man, who was just slightly shorter than he was.
‘I said, what the fuck do you think you are doing?’ Jason bellowed again
The words echoed in the silence of the room, where all eyes had turned to watch what was happening.
‘Helping a lady in distress’ said the stranger evenly,
‘How dare you assume that I can’t take care of my own woman’ Jason spat at him, ‘I should kill you right now’
‘No Jason’ Holly shouted to him, ‘He was only bandaging my hand which I cut in the bathroom, it was nothing more…’
She did not finish her sentence as Jason suddenly lashed out his fist and caught her across the face.
She fell to the floor as her mouth began to bleed.
‘Didn’t your mother ever teach you, that it is wrong to hit women?’ the man asked calmly as he narrowing his eyes.
Jason stared at him for a moment,
‘Didn’t your mother ever teach you not to mess with bikers?’ he said pulling a Desert Eagle from his belt and pointing it at the chest of the man.
Once again the man didn’t flinch, or answer, he just looked back at Jason with an expression that mirrored boredom and even contempt as he cocked his head, this expression seemed to fuel Jason’s rage.
‘Jason’ the barman suddenly interjected, ‘Please, I don’t need this in my place’
Jason looked at him, but kept the weapon aimed at the stranger,
‘This guy is a stranger’ he said ‘I’ve never seen him in this place before and I am sure I never will again, he is just passing through. He was just having a quiet drink, and I am sure he did not mean to disrespect you, right?’
The stranger smiled

About the Author
Born in 1983 and raised in the town of Northampton. He attended the Nottingham Trent University achieving a BA Honours degree in History. He is widely travelled and is a specialist in the sci-fi and horror fiction genres. The Light is the first book of The Darkness Saga, a collection of stories based around the central character, Christian. The Light, three interlinked novellas, introduce the reader to a rich world of forbidding and powerful characters, where the line between good and evil has never been finer.
