Choose Your Addiction

I looked up the word “addiction” in the dictionary.  It says that addiction is: “The act of devoting or surrendering oneself to something habitually.” If we surrender ourselves, we willingly give in or give up.  How did I become an addict?  I chose to do something, and then I chose to do it again.  I did it until it became a habit, until I finally lost nearly all control over my desire for that to which I was addicted. The driving force of my actions or choices became my addiction.  This means that anything I put first in my life on a regular basis can become an addiction.   But it did not begin with an arbitrary action.  It began in my mind with a decision I chose to make.  Destructive and evil thoughts turned into self-destructive and evil actions.  I believe my actions have determined the course of my life to this point.  If this is true, then my habits (addictions) have the power to determine who I could be and what I could become.  I began to feel that I could still control my destiny, even after all my mistakes.
