Sorry…Psychiatrist …the one the department has on retainer?” “Nope. We’ve been buds for always. Been on the force since we could sign up. We just think the same. See, same pining sarcasm we need to get through the day.” “So why are you quitting? Why is this crap week different than any other bad day we have?” Friends. Except one friend only told the other friend half the story. She was quitting because of a bad take down. She got the blame. She was getting the suspension. No room for slack to give her a simple slap on her wrist. “Marnie Austin!” The other friend decided to do a reverse psychiatry role. “Fine! Quit. Then I can take that job promotion in narcs. Catch? I will be going in as a mole to some of the prime drug rings no one can poke their noses into.” “Nope! Can’t! Suicide run. What we do is safe. A team. We get pissed off, use the excuse we all had a bad hair day.” “But you can quit and turn your back on ten years at the FBI. If I buy you one more drink, will loose lips spill why you are quitting?” Bait and challenge. It was more of a game to agree or disagree. Rule: Do not ever accuse the other they were a failure. Analyze and think. Rachel decided to cheat and pour her whisky into Marnie’s gin and tonic. Disgusting mix, she offered to buy. “Drink! Like a shooter. Close your eyes, pinch your nose and … One … Two … Three … Womp!” Rachel used her straw to stir it and do a taste. “Poison, you will live. Tastes better than Buckley’s.” Marnie obliged, more than one swallow. “Yuk!” Marnie got up and ordered a new drink. Put it down in front of Rachel and smiled sweetly. “Drink! Half through the straw, half as a shooter. Then I will talk.” Marnie broke into hysterical laughter as the drink went half down and the rest got stuck in Rachel’s mouth. A quick hard whack on her back made her swallow, no chance to spit up or get sick.

How would you do it? Angry because he slipped away? Frustrated? Happy because you finally go the perp? You feel anger? You feel a tear slip down your face because something went wrong and was not in your control. You are happy when it all ends. Good or bad.
