I am cautious when I see
The face of sunshine
In a field where I know
Only broken glass, dreams
Children’s bones are blanching
So I walk softly and carry
Sunglasses
One Eye Open
Open one eye
There is a soft way you kiss me
That opens the universe,
Tired cells and tissue
Morph plankton into prince,
Old friend into young lover
Quickening the night into dawn
All possibilities of joy,
A taste of your lips
One eye open
To the miracle
And mystery
Of us

About the Book

About the Author
Jeffrey Lickson was born in New York City, grew up in Connecticut, and now lives with his wife, an artist and retired professor, in Houston, Texas. He has two children and five grandchildren. He graduated from Johns Hopkins University, the University of Pennsylvania, School of Social Work, and earned a doctorate in instructional systems from Florida State University. His careers include social work in child welfare and mental health, instructional design and management consulting in healthcare, aviation, government, high technology, and the petroleum industry, and community college and university teaching. He is the author of David Charles: the Story of the Quincy 5 and The Continuously Improving Self: a Personal Guide to TQM.
