In an age where tolerance, diversity, respect and integrity have different meanings to varied cultures and the alternative lifestyles of subcultures promote themselves above the standards of Christ, many people desire to know the acceptable way of living. It really does not matter how much or little societies emphasize morals, manners, civility, or citizenship, people want to know what is considered right before their God. People want to witness non-perfect individuals who walk the walk of faith, who practice what is preached. Great is the need to see faith in action. When the option of put up or shut up is given, people want to see boldness over timidity, wherein there is evidence of some backbone in decision making. The time is now to man up, woman up, word up so that those who hunger for righteousness do not faint in their quest to live for God.
It is never wrong to choose God. In doing so, we will discover that He has already chosen us to be about His business, a good work; indeed a vessel that reflects godly character and good deeds. In a society that promotes, “Do You”, let the world witness someone who does Jesus because Jesus is our first love and we are commanded of Him to love Him with all of our heart, mind and might. Moreover, we are to always make His ways first in our lives. The world needs to see individuals who are motivated and operating out of His supernatural power. He calls us the “salt of the earth”. When anyone thinks of a disciple they should have memories of someone who has influenced the world around them by living out biblical standards, not earthly ones. Sadly, many disciples of Christ are looking and living like the world that we are in. Our mantra should be that we are in the world, but not of it. This said, our past has expired and all things are now new to us in Christ Jesus. We can do what we choose on this earth, but if what we do does not edify the Lord our God we should choose not to involve ourselves in matters that distort the very image of Him We should not be bound by any law or expectancy of this world. Nothing that a Christian does should even give the very appearance of wrongdoing. We are to live blameless and harmless while being a light in the world in which we live.
Being an example, imitating Christ does not mean that we, disciples of the Son of God, always get it right. It does mean; however, that we are living out “every” commandment of God such as confession and repentance of sins, loving God and others and sharing God’s word. By living so, the world witnesses “good works” and gives glory to God. Ultimately, we influence people by what we do and how we do it. Power, popularity and prosperity really are unimpressive when godly character, Kingdom principles are lacking. None of these attributes win souls for Christ. It is the power of our “godly” living that draws people to the matchless power of our God. Former President William Clinton stated at the 2008 Democratic Convention that, “People the world over have always been more impressed by the power of our example than the example of our power” . This declaration resonated within me and countless others as many internet blogs would later attest. Both children and adults learn immensely by that which is seen. People want to witness others practicing what they claim to believe about God and His word.
