“But mom, Timothy isn’t a troubled kid, he’s cool.” “Yeah, he’s cool alright. That boy stays in trouble.” “But it wasn’t his fault,” says Peter trying to defend his friend. “I know, Pete, it’s never your fault either.” Tammy collects the breakfast dishes, rinses them off, and loads the dishwasher smiling.
“Go get your stuff. I have to drop you off before I have to drive across the city to see a new family.” Peter dashes off for his bedroom to get his book bag wondering what family is having trouble now that his mother has to go and counsel them. Tammy Woods, a thirty-one year old social worker and single mother, loved her job.
After her divorce from Clayton, Peter’s father, it took her seven years working as a full-time administrative assistant for the Department of Human Services and weekends at a discount store as a part-time cashier while getting her degree in Social Work. Tammy has been a social worker for three years. Helping people is all she ever wanted to do.
Peter walks back into the kitchen as his mother picks up her keys from the counter and together they leave the house. The Woods rented one side of a brick duplex with a small back yard in a city outside of Atlanta. It is less expensive to live outside of the Metro area.
“Buckle up”, she says. “Two more weeks, mom!

About the Book
After relocating to a small town in Mississippi, Peter must adjust to a new lifestyle while trying to decide whether he should give the father that he never knew an opportunity to be a part of his life. The challenges of making new friends doesn’t compare to trying to avoid the neighborhood thugs who wish to recruit him to sell drugs at the school he attends. Feeling over his head, Peter determines that he will fix the mess he has found himself in rather than involve his uncle. Find out if Peter is street wise enough to outsmart a bunch of thugs or if he will become the new pharmaceutical salesman of Hernando High.
About the Author
Currently residing in Memphis, TN, Linda was born and raised in Northern Mississippi. She is a forty year old single mother whose only son inspired her to begin writing this series. She is currently working on the second book while working a full time job and attending college full time. She hopes the Hard Road to Manhood series is used as an entertaining tool to encourage young boys and girls to read more and as a guide when faced with life's little adversities.
