About the Author

Barb Zimmerman is the mother of two beautiful young ladies. Her youngest daughter, Erin, was diagnosed with Autism at the age of 2 years old. Since then the Zimmerman family has been on the wild roller coaster of life affected by autism. The many triumphs and tribulations are all learning experiences. Tony Atwood, an autism expert says: “Autism is anxiety looking for a target.” Autism and anxiety go together. Barb has made hundreds of visual strategies over the years to enable Erin to understand what is expected of her, or what she can expect of others. Knowing what to expect reduces her anxiety exceedingly. Generic stories about unknown characters were unsuccessful. Creating stories about Erin or other familiar family members or favorite characters interested Erin, allowing her to be able to learn and engage. Barb Zimmerman has shared some of the toughest stories she had to create.
