‘Proof’ said Gennardy, ‘how proof?’
Gennardy almost passed out with anxiety when he heard how he was to get the proof.
‘We want you to make contact with Li Saric again and use her to gain access to Plakinov’s apartment. She lives in it with him. If you can get us information or if you can recruit Miss Saric we will get you to the West. You will become one of us.’
Gennardy was dumbfounded. He was tired and his self control and nervous system was on the limit.
‘Are you playing games with me?’ He shouted angrily.
Miss Smith lifted the index finger to her pursed lips and went ‘shhh.’
Gennardy looked around frantically before continuing in a restrained voice.
‘How do I say to Plakinov; excuse me Mr Plakinov but my English friends have asked me to borrow the key to your apartment so that I can steal your papers!’
His hands flew up and down as he continued ‘No problem Mr Mardosov replies Plakinov. Here are the keys. Help yourself. Tell the KGB to have the day off.’

About the Book
The story is a fictional tale of two men, one on either side of the Iron Curtain, brought together by chance and seperated by world politics who have their lives changed and endangered by circumstances that they could never have imagined. Much of the tale is based on real events during the dispute between the Coal Miners of the United Kingdom and the Thatcher Government that took place in 1984/5 at a time when events in Poland and other Eastern European countries were threatening the Soviet Union.
