“You are welcome, Mary dear, but I didn't do this just for you. I brought you here because the first time I came to the Louvre, I was your age.
“Grandmother, will there be billions and billions of paintings?"
“You’ll see,” said my grandmother, “you’ll see.”
My knees were shaking as we got near the two wooden doors. “Grandmother, before you open the door, I have to tell you a secret … I want to be an artist when I grow up. Should I?”
“We’ll see,” my grandmother said, smiling.
