Many years ago, my great-great-great grandmother, Eileen O’Brien, lived in a small village in County Clare, Ireland. As a young girl she spent most of her time reading stories full of princes and princesses and far-off lands, but her favorite story was about a group of magical fairies that lived in the mystical hills of Ballón. Every day, she would sit under the big tree in her back yard, listening to the water bubbling over the rocks in the nearby brook, and read about the adventures of the Ballón Fairies. And even though her parents told her that the stories were not true, she secretly believed that the fairies were real. Little did she know that on the day before her seventh birthday, she was going to find out how right she was.

About the Book
A tradition began, as traditions often do, with family. Far off, in County Clare Ireland, my great-great-great Grandmother spoke of a magical time, far away, and long ago. She told a great story that descended down from generation to generation. The tale of the Balloon Fairy. ”Who is the Balloon Fairy?” you might ask, “And what does she do?” Snuggle up close and I will tell you the tale my mother told me when I was young. The tale of the magical Balloon Fairy who brings great joy to all children on their birthday!
About the Author
Katie Hayes lives in upstate New York. Her greatest accomplishments include finishing four Ironman triathlons, cycling 4,700 miles across the country, and joining Americorps*NCCC where she spent most of her time providing disaster relief to victims of Hurricane Katrina. Today, Katie is pursuing her dream of sharing her family's unique birthday tradition of the Balloon Fairy with the world. Publishing the Balloon Fairy book is a big step in that direction.
