About the Author
Cecily Mwaniki taught for five years both in secondary and primary schools in Kenya before re-locating to the United Kingdom. She has always had a passion for women-oriented issues and therefore she took a B.A degree in women studies. After volunteering for a women’s aid organisation, Cecily founded ‘Utulivu’ Women, an organisation working for women and children with the support of men. She also worked with homeless people who had drugs and alcohol problems. While doing so, she took a BSc degree in substance use and misuse. She then took a one-year programme called “Common Purpose”, which prepared her for her work in the community. She also took a one-year course in chartered management and became a member of the Chartered Management Institute. She has a certificate in the field of social Equality and Diversity and is one of the diversity ambassadors within the organisation she currently works for. She is extensively involved in community work and is a member of the FORUM Committee and the SAKOMA—organisations promoting work of the marginalized people in the community. Cecily is also a member of the Local Police Advisory (LPA) team with the view of empowering and engaging her community with the wider community. She has two daughters, Angela and Mercy, and a husband, James and she is passionate about Healthy Family Relationship as she believes it is the source of a healthy and wealthy society.
