Lindy ran down the hall to the kitchen, grabbed up the telephone, and dialed nine-one-one.
A voice came on the line instantly. “Nine-one-one….what’s your emergency?”
Lindy’s throat was constricted. She tried to force words out of her mouth but only short gasps escaped her lips.
“Hello? Nine-one-one. Do you need help?”
Lindy found her voice. “My baby…..my daughter….is missing. She’s not in her room and…..and the window….is open. My husband….went out the window to look for her.”
“Ma’am….how old is your daughter?”
“Five…she’s five.”
“Verify your address for me. Stay calm, ma’am. A car is on the way.”
“Two-forty-four Carlisle. Please…..she’s only five.” Lindy hung up.
Lindy’s breathing was labored. Michael. He was crying for her. She staggered down the hall to the room across from Samantha’s and opened the door. Michael was standing in his crib, looking very frightened when Lindy scooped him up and hugged him to her.
“I scared, Mommy.” He said as he wrapped his chubby three-year-old arms around her neck.
“I know, Baby. Come on in the kitchen with me.”
She heard Ricky coming back through the window and she stopped and waited for him. As soon as she saw his face, she knew he had failed to find her. She jumped when the doorbell sounded. Ricky quickly responded to it. Two police officers entered the living room and furtively looked around. Lindy, tears streaming down her face, held Michael in her arms and stared at the officers. Ricky took charge.

About the Book
Lindy and Ricky are all grown up and have children of their own. Through hard work, perseverence and determination they have made it! About the Author
Carole McKee is a native Pittsburgher and her love for the city shows in the stories she writes. Although now residing in Clearwater, Florida she still calls Pittsburgh her home. She began writing in 1996 when she wrote a short story about her black Labrador retriever. Perfect, her first novel was published in 2007.
