 What were you doing on July 29^th 1981?

Many people were glued to the television watching the wedding of Prince Charles and Lady Diana Spencer, Some lined the route cheering while others were arranging street parties.  But for others the day would remain memorable for entirely different reasons. 

Makeovers is the story of four of these people.

It was one of those days when you knew what everyone was doing, but nobody knew what was happening to you, no one would ever guess.

In her stylish, funny and often moving debut, Fifi Stead examines the changing roles of gender and identity as seen through the lives of Beth and Sarah, two sisters whose 80’s radicalism has long deserted them and the memory of their all-girl punk rock group is a distant and fading one.  2006 finds them alone and abandoned in disappointed and frustrated middle-age.

After her divorce, when Sarah relocates in Kent near her sister, their lives gradually become intertwined once more and take on a new direction.

There is only one thing left to do.
