About the Book

Brandon Mason was born to the life of ease on a Carolina plantation. The son of an abusive father, he would never have known love if not for the plantation slaves who tried to protect him. He grew strong from hard work and when war broke out, he quickly enlisted and was given command of a troop who called him Cap’n Mason. Perilously wounded during a battle he was granted a furlough to go home. He arrived to find his home burned, his mother dead, and the slaves scattered. By the time he returned to his troop, the war was almost over. Brandon had only two things on his mind, having the kind of life he was born to, and making the North pay for it all. He began by pilfering the pockets of the dead. He learned to live off the land and taught himself to trap for food and furs. Years passed. Brandon had everything he wanted but he was missing one important thing. Love. He met Dora Mae Bodell at a dance and married her within a month. She for money, he for love. Soon they had a son with an angelic face and the soul of a demon. Several years later their daughter was born. She was as good as her brother was bad. Brandon began to drink and soon the sweet life turned sour. The family members began to disappear till all were gone. The Mason home stood empty for a century before it was passed on to a young girl who must spend a week in the house alone. But was she really alone? Troubled spirits, voices from beyond the grave and more must be contended with before she could begin to find the truth hidden in this legacy of lies.
