About the Book
Great Reading and Phonics Ideas For First Grade Teachers has some tried and tested ideas for helping the first grade teacher get through the very hectic reading process with first graders. The first part of the book consists of a game called the "Phonics Game". It is a game that the author used for at least 20 years to help many students learn to decode words. After using this game students will be able to decode almost any word which they come upon. Another part of the book gives an organized method of working with students when learning sight words. With this method the students can progress learning sight words at their own pace but also have the incentative to do so. There is also some cool ideas for organizing books and some fun things to do after students have read a story. For an added surprize there is a wonderful gift for students to make their parents for Christmas.
About the Author
Kathryn Redd has taught school for 25 years. Of these 25 years about 9 were in a school that had multiple grades in one classroom and the rest were in a school that she taught just first graders. By having the multiple grades and by having the task of teaching children to first learn to read, she was always trying to find ways of being able to work with each child individually in an organized fashion. As a child Kathryn had a hard time with reading skills herself. Therefore when she went into the teaching profession and discovered the great world of phonics and how much of a help it was for learning to read, she developed a game to help students be able decode new words. Because of the success she saw with this and some of her other programs, she decided to share her ideas with others.
