About the Book

This volume of two full-length plays, SAVONAROLA and SPIDERS AND FLIES, focuses on man’s attempts to wrest some meaning for his life within the context of a mysterious and every-expanding universe. a) SAVONAROLA Logline: Set in the time of Savonarola’s rise to power, this full-length play documents the conflict between medieval and Renaissance values in the confrontation between the celebrated Dominican friar and the citizens of Florence. All the bustle and vibrant energy of the Italian Renaissance come to life in this colorful canvas with its varied rhythms of action, crisp dialogue and blend of historical and fictional characters. Here is an entertaining study of human motivation that is valid for all ages. b) SPIDERS AND FLIES Logline : SPIDERS AND FLIES is a hilarious, full-length, metafarce whose essential – though never explicitly stated - message is that human beings should accept their absurd, earthly condition for what it is, imbue it with some worth-while non-transcendental meaning and purpose, and finally overcome their need to subscribe to some religious mythology. Four individuals of varying ages, backgrounds and religious persuasions discover what awaits them on the other side of the death-divide and must contend with totally unpredictable forces in a stressful environment.
