Neal C. Jurney, born mid-war 1943 in El Monte, California, the end of The Santa Fe Trail, was a child of The Great American Depression era, 1929-1941. His family came from Texas, but they found it necessary to move in order to find work. So in the early 1930’s they traveled west to California. They barely survived there though they found some work in The Imperial Valley farm lands of The southern California desert.
Mr. Jurney began writing poetry in his late teens.
The first items in this anthology were written during a lonely time of his life, while stationed in Vietnam, (1970-1971). His thoughts and words were strongly influenced by The Holy Bible. Later poems were written in Chandler, Arizona where he spent much time in the mountains, deserts and forest, hiking, camping and motorcycling. In 1979 he was transferred to Europe and lived in Bruchmulhbach, West Germany, in a two room apartment while stationed at Ramstein Air Force Base. More recent works were completed in Goldsboro, North Carolina, his home for the past 28 years.
Mr. Jurney is a graduate of El Monte Union High School, attended Mt. San Antonio Jr. College, walnut, CA., and graduated from The Community College of the Air Force with an associates degree in aircraft maintenance technology.
