About the Book

Reiki One: The Journey Begins is offered as a support to all Level One students as they embark on their personal journey of Reiki. It contains well-researched, up-to-date information about the foundation of Reiki in the tradition of Dr. Mikao Usui. Well-organized and simply written, this book is not limited to use by beginning students. It would be a welcome addition to the resource library of any Reiki teacher, practitioner, or more advanced student.

 The book begins by defining Reiki as “Universal Life Force Energy” and guides the reader through a comprehensive description of the Reiki healing system, the origin of Reiki and its history, the Five Reiki Ideals, and the Seven Chakras, augmented by the authors’ personal experiences, stories, and comments throughout. The step-by-step instructions for giving Reiki treatments to oneself and to others are presented using easy-to-follow photo images. There is a special section titled “Christians and Reiki,” where the authors reflect on their own journey with Reiki as practicing Christians. Bringing oneself to a place of inner peace is one of the many benefits of Reiki, thus the inclusion of an energy exercise, guided imagery walk through the Chakras, and a listing of suggested Reiki music CDs.

Understanding the meaning of Reiki and its usefulness is a lifelong adventure. Let the journey begin!

About the Author

Sister Marilyn Omieczynski has been a member of the Union of Sisters of the Presentation of the Blessed Virgin Mary since 1966. Underlying and supporting her charism and skill as a Reiki therapist and teacher, Sister Marilyn has spent more than forty years practicing various forms of contemplative prayer, especially Centering Prayer. After twenty-five years in the ministry of education, Sister Marilyn explored her lifelong desire for the healing ministries through a study of massage therapies. Besides Reiki, she has been trained in Swedish massage as well as reflexology, acupressure, shiatsu, injury, sports, and deep-tissue therapies. In addition, Sister Marilyn teaches tai chi.

Florence (Flo) Sanfilippo is a contemplative Christian woman who began her Reiki journey in 2002 in the midst of a flare-up of a lifelong illness. In July of 2003, Flo was accepted to and began a six-month-long internship with Sister Marilyn in preparation to become a Reiki master. Flo received her master attunement in January of 2004. Flo writes, “I consider Reiki a gift from a loving God, and, in my mind, gifts are meant to be shared. I am humbled and honored to teach others how they too can bring about personal healing and the healing of others using Reiki energy. It not only brought about physical healing, but brought me to a deepened sense of inner peace. Reiki dramatically changed my life!” Aside from teaching Reiki, Flo is a spiritual director. She is an avid reader, musician, artist, and photographer.
