About the Book

THIS POETIC BOOK

This is a book of poems to give you a lift,

And it’s my appreciation of God’s gift.

For I enjoy writing poetry just for fun;

I’ll write about anything or anyone.

I don’t care what the subject might be;

I’ll turn it around until it suits me.

I hope you find this book to be a joy for you;

Then, I have accomplished what I wanted to do.

I’m writing this book with friends and relation in mind;

I wanted it to be in poetry, making the words rhyme.

I’m certainly not writing for fame or even glory;

I just want to tell about things in a poetic story.

This book will hopefully inspire, make you laugh or cry;

Being so grateful, I want to encourage others, so I’ll try.

The Webb of Life is poems of people and events important to me;

Look at your life and perhaps you, too, God’s blessings will see.

This book turned out to be a lot more than I had planned;

Now it’ll be wonderful to get it into some other hands.

For I want you to remember when I’m dead and gone,

That, hopefully, this poetic book will carry on.

About the Author

At the age of forty-nine, Eugene, who dropped out in his junior year of high school to join the Marines, went back to school. He graduated with a B.A. (1981) and M.A. (1986) in Health and Safety, along with a certificate for the Specialist in Alcohol and Drug Problems. It was in college that he started writing poetry and his Master’s thesis was a book of poetry entitled, An Alcoholic’s Poetic Story, which he later published. In recent years Eugene has written thousands of poems on many different topics. His poems have been published in newspapers such as the Pasadena Star News, magazines, such as Word from the Rib, church bulletins, alumni programs and read at weddings, anniversary celebrations, memorial services, parties and other events. Eugene’s second book is also comprised of poems on the subject of alcohol and aptly named, Alcohol Is My Name. He says his purpose in publishing these poems in book form is to reach a wider audience, providing information, enjoyment and hope. Eugene sees his poetry as a form of self-help and food for thought. He is currently enjoying his retirement by spending time with his wife of over sixty years, family and friends at home in Southern California, playing pinochle and bridge, traveling and continuing to write poetry. Each poem, in this, his third poetry book, The Webb of Life, tells a story in rhyme. Many poems are about family and friends, and some reflect lessons learned. Together, they weave his “Webb of life.”
