"Turn around and face that wall!"he said.So his swinging position would be just right.So I turned around.The beating began.I think the first slash was the most fierce.I let out a yelp that almost took my breath.Then here came the second and third,then fourth,fifth,sixth,and seventh.The burning was getting piercing in my whole back side.After about twenty lashes,my legs were numb.I started to move around,putting my hands behind my back,while dad yelled at me to move my arms.My body was trembling.I was trying not to put my arms back,but the lashes on my back were burning something awful."I've had it with you,you little heathen.If I've told you once,I've told you a hundred times,not to move your arms.Bend over and put your hands on your ankles,"he yelled.As I bent over,I saw the other kids looking from the crack of the doors in their rooms.Little Derek was crying.I guess he was afraid of what was going to happen to us.With my legs shaking,I screamed that I would never run away again.He was yelling back at me that he knew I wouldn't,and he would make sure of it right now.After about forty lashings,my body weak,he finally stopped."Get over there,"he said."I'm not finished with you yet."So I went over and tried to sit down but the pain was excruciating."Come here Davie, it's your turn,"he demanded.
