It was once said that a darkness would cover the earth in the end of time and that this darkness would surpass all other darkness of all other times. The statement was not wrong; it was vague. When the end of time arrived, a mixture of chaos and injustice flooded the world. Darkness pushed the light out of hearts. Darkness enveloped everything in its path. Darkness changed the whole pattern of existence. Each person could feel it but could never understand it. A fog settled on a mind that twisted and confused the person’s soul, until a core of darkness that was embedded in every soul began to take over his or her bodily functions.
Lechtor and Alex sat in Satan’s personal parlor. He had loaded it with a huge stereo system, thousands of CDs, the most comfortable furniture, and the biggest TV that he could find. No one was allowed in this room except for Satan himself and Lechtor and Alex. Of course, this was where he hung out, and they were the only ones he hung out with.
Satan walked over to the door of the room. “Get me da immortal food,” Satan called to one of his servants.
“Yes, master,” she replied humbly.
“Ah … master,” Satan said self-importantly, “I love ta be called dat.”
Lechtor smirked. “Are you actually the angel that left heaven or are you someone else?”
Satan was saved from answering by the servant bringing to the door the food that was requested. Satan brought the serving tray over to the coffee table and uncovered it to reveal many open bags of cheese puffs.
“This is the immortal food?” Alex asked.
“Yeah, dey like ne’er go bad, dawg.” Satan picked up one of the bags and started munching. “Dis bag’s been open for two months, and taste ‘em; dey still taste good.”
Lechtor cautiously took one and put it in his mouth.
“It won’t go on much longer. I’m pretty sure.”
“What, get better?”
“No,” Chris laughed out, “get worse. Pretty soon, money will do no one any good. Soon, very soon, we’ll have barcodes in our skin to get stuff. That is, if you’ll take the mark of the beast,” Chris finished in a taunt.
“Aaarrghh,” Drey screamed, “everything you talk about ends up being about the end of time.”
“I know, but Drey, that’s the imminent subject for everyone. Don’t you remember what they taught you in church?”
“Yeah, I remember.

About the Author
R. M. Veal is an up and coming author. She was born in the fall of 1981 and is a Native Metro-Atlanta resident. Although her favorite pastime is writing, she enjoys reading, video games, and spending time with her friends.
