Making a Hammock

My husband and I realized that as our family grew we would need to leave our condominium, so in 1986 we built our new home. I knew that I wanted all four of our bedrooms to have crucifixes over the doors. I felt comforted knowing that no evil would enter while we were sleeping. I let our daughters choose their own crucifixes. Father John Hurley blessed them for us at the Holy Thursday Dinner that year. A couple of years later we experienced a shocking accident. One morning my husband and I were sitting at the kitchen table drinking coffee. Suddenly, directly above our heads, we heard a loud crash. The noise was coming from our seven-year-old daughter's bedroom I ran upstairs to see what happened. Lana's bedroom door was locked. I had to make a mad dash for a Q-tip. I broke one end off as I rushed back to her door and popped the lock. To my shock I saw her little feet sticking out from under her highboy dresser. I immediately tried to lift it off of her body as I screamed for my husband to help me, and to get our other daughter, Nicole, to come and help us too...
Mysterious Medical Miracle
O Lord, You have searched me and known me. You know when I sit down and when I rise up; You understand my thought from afar. On September 12, 2008, my daughter Maddie had what I thought was a stomach bug. She complained of pain in her stomach in the area of her belly button. She stayed home from school that day. Throughout the day, she had a fever. She also began complaining of pain in her "pit" and pointed to her right armpit. The next day, September 13, was poor Maddie's fifth birthday. She could hardly sit up. Her fever was high. She complained of pain in her back. I took her to the doctor. They diagnosed her with pneumonia. She had a high white blood cell count. I was told her X-ray looked pretty bad. Maddie's doctor decided she neeeded to be admitted to the hospital. Many people prayed with and for Maddie while she was there. She was able to come home after three days. Several days later, the doctor wanted to check Maddie's progress. He ordered another X-ray be taken. While we waited for the results, I noticed a crowd forming in the hallway. Several nurses and the doctor were looking at the X-ray. The radiologist asked me if I had possibly stepped into the X-ray while it was being performed, because there was something she didn't understand in the picture. After I answered no, she called me and Maddie into the hall and showed us...

About the Author
Heidi R. May was born in Portland, Oregon. She lived in both California and Washington before her parents divorced when she was four. She was raised in Wisconsin where her childhood years were influenced by her grandfather, a Methodist minister. Living in Illinois as an adult, Heidi attended Northwestern University. She has been a dental hygienist for more than thirty-five years and it was this professional setting that put Heidi in daily contact with people who shared her willingness to see the work of God's hand in their lives. Through the years her patients shared stories of their own spiritual experiences and sometimes the stories of others. Inspired by these accounts and the people who told them, Heidi has made it her mission to trace back to the sources and confirm the details to accurately share them. Through that journey, she has discovered even more examples of what believers see as heavenly intervention in their lives. In her debut as an author, she relates these stories as well as her own unique spiritual experiences including surviving cancer. Heidi is involved with many other activities. She has been a member of the American Dental Hygienists' Association since 1993 and recently joined the Illinois State Dental Society. Heidi has been a parishioner of St. Edna Catholic Church for more than twenty-seven years. She is a member of the Ministry of Praise, Rosary Confraternity and the Respect Life Committee. Heidi is a woman of many interest and talents. She has designed and patented a lawn care product that could lead her into a new entrepreneurial experience. Heidi is married, the mother of two adult daughters, and has one grandson. She resides in Arlington Heights, Illinois with her husband.
