The Cartwheel Dance
-Rememberings-
The cartwheel dance, of meeting you,
through Heaven’s Grace
has changed my life
in ways once dreamed, but given up.
A new day came, and with it
pregnant questionnings:
What use the comfort, and the pace
of time or place,
the gait of once familiar ways
when stirrings of new life explode
in cartwheels dancing
toward a Door
of destinies entwined in us?
What this that formed, pulsing in me,
pulsing in us,
to sounds of knockings
on our hearts?
What is this quickening in me
as love draws nigh
calling me forth?
What this that forms, within my grasp,
engraved and written
on His Hand
where our names were
engraved by God?
What leads my heart, so strongly moved,
to thus look back
and far ahead,
to speak and dream
of future days,
confirm a land
not seen or known,
forgotten, lost, but glimpsed again
within a future
planned by God? 1
How comes this honor unto me,
I who am least,
long stained by sin,
not worthy
of the Love that’s here?
I do not understand such Grace….
What this that breaks, a-flight, with wings,
out of cocoons, out of ‘grave’ things,
from out the turnings of a thread
that had been tied to grief instead?
What is this Love, that sets me Free?
Who is this God I cannot see?
“What is His Name, and His Son’s Name
if you have known?”
Who found me there, where once I was,
amid the deserts of despair?
Who spreads this Table, bids me, “Eat”?
And who are you, that He has sent?
What this that sets me free to sing?
What this that called to us to wait
before the closing of our eyes,
before the closing of our hearts,
before the closing of a Door,
that we might enter
where we are
set forth upon
the destined voyage
of this, our lives?
What is this LOVE that bids us, “Come”?
What this that calls
before a longing not yet known,
before a darkness spreads abroad,
before an evil tide is felt?
What this that calls, “Step forth, launch out,
While there is time, come unto me,
Return to God”?
Who this that calls, before perhaps
a wrinkled brow, a beard too white,
a hand too aged 2
might fail to reach,
might fail to go,
might fail to open wide the heart,

About the Book
"Touch The Sky" is about love. It is a series of love songs or poems. The wondrous love between a man and a woman. The mystery of God's love for a man and a man's love for God in communion in the big things and in the little things of life. The mystery of being sent as a living sign and ambassador of unbound love and of joy unspeakable, knowing the weight of the Presence of the Divine "with" us, through the thick and thin of life, its ups and downs, its great griefs and great joys to this one End - that Love conquer all to make all things as new again. Without love there is no hope. With love our hope is like a great diamond with many faces which shine on us with the many facets of God's face reflected here in so many aspects of life. The facets of His Love are like a rock not hewn by human hands with which He draws and makes us His. "Touch The Sky" contains treasure that the author has brought back from diving trips beneath the surface of the seen where the net of thought drips words back into the the ungraspable whole of it.
About the Author
The author has led an adventurous, earthy, and spiritual life since an early age. The call on his life has led him to ends of the earth by sea, under sail; and back and forth to Israel by air some twenty-two times since the first Gulf War in 1991. A CD of his poems put to music has been produced in Jerusalem and well received there. Upon hearing the story of his life one PhD candidate commented, "I know people who would kill to have a story like that." One leading Rabbi called the life he and his wife have led "prophetic" and indeed they have lived through a series of terrible and wonderful life events and have experienced the touch of the miraculous.
