The Unique Creation

Even with the rain the tourists were still out in force, as were the pigeons. Over the years a few half-hearted efforts had been made to clear the birds, their excrement blamed for many things from ruining clothes to defacing famous landmarks. Westerman looked up at Nelsons Column and the bedraggled creatures nestling amongst the ornate stonework. Again lightning flashed and thunder rolled.

Busily looking around for a vantage point to take the best shot of this historic vista, he was blissfully unaware of the plain, dirty white van which had pulled to a halt about twenty metres away from him. Inside the vehicle Rodgers and O’ Grady sat motionlessly staring through the rain soaked windscreen. A passing policeman noticed the stationary vehicle and approached, O’ Grady noticed him and began winding down his side window. “Is there a problem gentlemen?” asked the young constable politely. O’ Grady smiled and said.

“No officer there is no problem; belief is total!”

At that split second conditions of cosmic chance came together. In a window overlooking the square The Warden held a device that was counting down to zero. At zero a signal was sent to the mobile phone connected to the machine in the back of the van. The smiling Warden vanished in a flash of light; a bolt of lightning flashed, and a millionth of a second later the van, Trafalgar Square and the surrounding area of ten square miles disappeared into a brilliant white hot nuclear fireball.
