Warren C. Robinson, Ph.D., is professor emeritus of economics, the Pennsylvania State University and former director of the Population Research Institute there. He has published over 100 scholarly papers and reviews as well as writing or editing six books. He has lived and worked in the developing world for nearly 20 years and has taught at Thammasatt University (Thailand), Fudan University ( China), Nairobi University ( Kenya), the Institute of Development Economics (Pakistan ) and the Cairo Demographic Center (Egypt). He was senior demographic advisor to the USAID Mission to Egypt, 1994-1996, and has had short-term assignments for the World Bank, the United Nations, the US Agency for International Development and other groups in some 30 other countries. He is currently a free- lance consultant and advisor based in Washington, DC
