Excerpt From Chapter 01 Why do we generally think of science and religion as opposites in the explanation of a world-view? Is it because we are conditioned to believe that science deals in the facts that we discover, contained in of our natural universe and religion in the revelation of the word of God to a prophet, contained in sacred writings. Both streams of thought are worked into grand models that are often in competitive tension with each other or rationalized by convoluted explanations of the differences. But is not the source of all these complex, vast and often competing bodies of thought, our discovery, over time, through the products of our imaginations found in the human brain, itself the result of an evolutionary, biological and environmental process? We often call these discoveries a leap of mind or a leap of faith. We discover that both streams of thought are, however, evolutionary over time, both having multiple avenues of possible understanding. That is to say there exists a tension of alternative and sometimes, speculative understandings in both world- views. This is easily recognized in the scientific world as it advanced from the phlogiston theory to a rational understanding of the scientific method that described the mechanical world of Today we have a full range of attitudes about science and religion. Science has revealed so many unexplainable and unimaginable phenomena and theories, as to put into question the actual reality of the physical world. Religion spans the full range of atheism to rigid orthodoxy and every possibility in between, including the notion that reality is a dream. Why should this be? Is it possible that the same processes that imagine one can imagine the other and that the tenacity with which we hunger for both science and religion is a natural outcome of how we discover the universe and our place in it? The Corpus Callosum Theory for Science and Religion The human brain has a large area called the frontal cortex. It is divided into two parts, left and right. For 80% of all people ( right handed persons ), the right side of the cortex is where we generate all of our ideas, our imaginative thoughts, our speculations and dream up the great leaps of mind. It is the creative and intuitive part of our brain, only found in the highest of higher animals, human beings. The left side of the cortex is where we conduct logical and rational, well- ordered thought, learn and use the rote processes that allow us to play instruments, study subjects, deploy our math skills, develop repeatable habits.

About The Book I believe that it is our destiny to wonder at and seek after the mystery that is our origin as humans and our place in the Universe. To explore this mystery the greatest minds of 40 millennia have created the most wondrous fabric of possibilities, with threads of imagination, change, color, denier, weave and substance. The strangest part of this evolution has been the discovery that at the deepest level of human cognition of Science or Religion, the quest has been and will be the same, namely, the search to understand The Creation we live in, The Creator and the Origin of Life. The strangest irony has been that there is always a considerable gap of uncertainty in both Science and Religion and the answer to Creation, The Creator and Life, no matter how far or fast we evolve. We are, never the less, always confused, by our knowledge, and with our prejudices and intolerance. Science is only an approximation to the physical nature around us. Religion is only an approximation to our spiritual nature within and around us. We often get both wrong from time to time and are compelled to change.
