As I lay back in the grass in a moment of tranquility being serenaded by a red cardinal, our Ohio State Bird, the serenity immediately dispersed with a crash that sounded like a hurricane and tornado combined. The sky looked like strange, like it was on fi re, but engulfed with a darkness that you could feel. For a moment the end of all things seemed at hand. Every alarm we had set up went off . Within seconds we all met at the control room and huddled under its safety. In his usual optimistic manner Josh didn’t take it too serious. He just reasoned, “Ahhh, it’s probably the D.C. Device Owl. Something’s gone wrong. We’ll get it fi xed as soon as everything settles down.” I expressed to him, “Th is is something bigger than that Josh. Th e D.C. Device may be involved, but it couldn’t do this by itself. If it’s involved, it has collided with another type of force comparable…but A r i s t o t l e O w l 159 larger than itself.” Bub quavered, “I use to read the little kid’s book about the sky falling. This sky seems like it really is falling. I’ve never seen anything so eerie, yet beautiful in my life.” Gage agreed, “You may be right Bub, or maybe the sun blew up. I learned in elementary school that it could happen someday.” Josh reprimanded, “You guys are overreacting. Don’t be so silly. We’ve just got some kinda technical problem—that’s all. Like I said… we’ll get it fi xed as soon as things settle down.” Suddenly the strange looking fire in the sky went out, and all of our monitors, sirens, and force fi elds shutdown. We had a total power failure. Everything stopped working…even our Quins stopped. I knew it was very serious, and I was aware of the “Magnetic Mirage” secret files, but never in my wildest dreams could I have imagined what my eyes were about to see.

A true villain appears and an unsung hero receives high honors. Tragedy strikes and the “Quin Frins” are on the verge of becoming super heroes.

R.A. was born in 1953, and reared with three sisters in
Aristotle Owl was brainstormed “unexpectedly” in front of his class as he was teaching writing skills. It was a “wow” moment. After he wrote one chapter, the class encouraged him to keep writing and sharing it with them…which he did.
