There Has To Be More

CHAPTER 9   TURNABOUT IN A SNOWSTORM

         There are youngsters and there are youngsters. Every once in a while a youngster comes along who is strong willed but, has that very special quality that you just love.  That is how Mary came across to me.  She was spunky, she was full of life, and she had goodness that was so deep down.  But, she had a way of getting into trouble that was unique.  Of course she hit it off with Maureen, my redhead who lived with me at the time.  I can remember, at times having to go to the police station, to pick them up, because they had gotten into trouble.  Other times they just seemed to pal around.  They seemed to find each other when it came to mischief. 

         Mary was  involved with a young man, Greg, who was really trouble.  At one point, he convinced her to run away and stay with him in an apartment in Greenpoint.  It was a snowy day when they took off, and I didn't know where they were.  The only clue I had was a piece of paper by the phone, where she had written something down.  An impression had been left on the pad.  I realized that the number she had written down was a street in Greenpoint, Brooklyn, but I could only make out a partial address.  I prayed as I went out that snowy day to look for her.................
