About the Book

About the Author

In 2007 I became a citizen of the United States of America. It was a sunny September day and the ceremony which took place in Newark, New Jersey was both beautiful and moving. An amazing experience. Still as much as I appreciate American hospitality and the many good opportunities that America offers, particularly in the educational field, I must confess that a part of me will always belong to Africa. Just like a daughter whom is a new bride and belongs to her husband yet a part of her will always remain with her parents and siblings. Born in beautiful Cape Town city, South Africa and then raised from the age of 10 in what used to be Rhodesia (now Zimbabwe) I enjoyed a healthy and carefree childhood and will be eternally thankful for my many memories of those sun splashed days beneath spectacular African skies, endless miles of untouched land and the many wild species to whom this vast wilderness is home. Even after Rhodesia became Zimbabwe on the 18th April,1980 my husband and our three lovely children continued to enjoy living here. So it was a very sad and extremely difficult transition for us to start all over again in a foreign country. Now close to fourteen years later aftr goiung through both happy, sad as well as difficult times, in spite of my initial misgivings and subsequent disappointments along the way, I do not regret coming to live here. The Patriotic Immigrant my first book, first published in 2008 is simply written but offers a window into the heart of a modern day immigrant of the United States. Please feel free to email me your comments on my book at maria.rickymaria.dacunha7@gmail.com Presently I am working on a second book, titled Rhodesian Girl, Zimbabwean Woman.
