I had gone on out of the saloon and Doc was going to pay then catch up with me. As I walked down the board walk a man stopped me as I turned the corner saying, “You Toab Harris?”
I asked, “Who wants to know?”
“The man that’s going to kill you,” the stranger said.
I saw him reach for his gun but before he could come clear of his holster my gun was out and I put two slugs neatly in his chest.
People came running out from the saloon. Doc came up and so did the Marshal.
The Marshal came up to me and asked, “What happened?” As he asked this Doc went over to examine the body.
I told the Marshal what had happened. He asked if I knew the man and I told him, “I never saw him before but he was sure looking for me.”
“Not anymore he isn’t.” Doc piped in, “That sure was some good shooting two shots in the middle of the chest only an inch apart.”
The Marshal asked Doc, if he had ever seen the man before and he told him he hadn’t. Because we didn’t know anything and it was self defense the Marshal let us go but he would go around and make inquiries about the man and who he was.
Doc and I headed back to the stables, eyes and ears alert for any trouble that may come along. We didn’t speak until we got to the stables and checked it out to make sure no one else was waiting to take a shot at me. When we went up in the loft we took off our boots and got in our bed rolls and laid back. We had our guns at hand ready if someone else tried to come after us gunning for me.
It was dark and the only light we had was from the moon as it shown through some of the cracks in the wall. Doc looked over to where I was and asked, “You really don’t know who that was and why he wanted you dead?”
“No, I haven’t a clue. Only thing someone else must have sent him because he asked me if I was Toab Harris.”
“Who have you done riled up?”
“If we started a list of those folks we’d be here all night.” I added, “It would almost be as long as your list.”
Doc laughed, “Nothing could be as long as my list. I make a point to rile a dozen people a day if not more.”
“I know, boy do I know.”

About the Book
The story of Toab and Doc who are traveling back west after returning to Alabama to pay off Toabs debts. They find a wagon train going west and join up with them and this is where their adventure begins. They are hired to find one woman's husband who has disapeared. In the process Doc has a run in with a member of an out law gang which causes a collison course with them which turns even more deadly when it is found Toab has a bounty on him that the outlaws want to collect. Toab and Doc are faced with defending themselves and the girls that they met on the wagon train. there is no backing up for Toab and Doc, and with Toab's since of responsability they will do all they can to make these out laws pay for all the evil they have done.
About the Author
M. T. Deason is a native from Oxford Alabama where he grew up and now still lives. He graduated from Oxford High School and then Gadsden State Community College getting a degree in Criminal Justice. Mr. Deason worked with the Anniston Police Department for several years as a Correctional Officer. He has spent most of his working life in public service now working as a Security Officer with Homeland Security. He has always had a creative side and after talking with some friends and co-workers began to use his talents to wright down those stories he had created. After seeing the stories and others reading them and enjoying them felt they needed to be shared with others.
