About the Book

From the pen of M.R.Sykes, a new author, comes a tale of love, tragedy, humour and strength in the face of adversity as a band of villagers attempt to save their local Inn from demolition and conversion to executive homes.

As the story, set in a small sleepy South Oxfordshire village unfolds; the reader is taken back, on a roller coaster ride to different periods in history. Their ancestors’ tales show how the Inn and the role they played in world events, helped shape the character and determination of the little band of today’s villagers.

The attempts of the villagers seem futile but nothing is guaranteed in life and no one could predict the outcome of their quest to save the Inn or the impact of events in the past on their own lives going forward. Their lives and souls are woven into the very fabric of the building and are visible through the Pains of Glass.

About the Author

Born in Reading, Martin Sykes has lived all his life in Berkshire and Oxfordshire. He has worked for many years in the communications industry travelling all over the world but always coming back to the best place, home.

He is an avid reader of historical and general fiction and has now released his own weaving fictional tale of life, humour and tragedy based upon the villages and the lives of the people of the South Oxfordshire countryside he cherishes.

Martin Sykes lives in Oxfordshire with his wife and can often be seen in the day and darkest of nights walking with his best friend Mertle, the Border Terrier, through the woods and fields where he lives.

He’s the one who is shortish and balding with only two legs.

Please keep an eye out for his next novel, which he may actually write titled ‘101 Things to do with a Useless Book ‘.  At least he does have a sense of humour!
