“What’s happening to us?” Elisabeth looks up at Ken, in shame. “We’re never going to be the same again, are we?”
“If we’re always changing, then things will never be the same!” Ken finds himself at a loss. “Elisabeth, you’re starting to scare me. Change is scary, and things will never be the same, but you have to maintain control. You’ve gotten this far, right?”
“I guess so.”
Sobbing in his arms, Elisabeth watches the golden rays of the sun, flood through the open windows. After an hour of relaxation, Ken walks Elisabeth into the living room and turns the television on.
“Here you go,” Ken hands her the remote control. “Watch what ever you like. I’m going to cook us some breakfast.”
While Ken stands in the kitchen, cooking pancakes and sausage, Elisabeth turns on channel 47, to see a man sleeping on a bed. Elisabeth focuses on the hibernating body, when it seemed like she is watching television through a tunnel of darkness. After becoming involved in their present scenario, their tranquillity interrupts by the telephone.
Ken listens closely as Elisabeth answers the phone. “Hello?”
“Elisabeth, it’s your mother. I’m sorry to bother you, but I wanted to tell you that I ran into my old friend Steve Turner last night. He told me that he is looking for a good computer programmer, and I happened to mention your name!”
“Really mom, that’s awesome. Where is this job located?”
“Thirty-five, Commercial Avenue. He said that if you want the job, be there at twelve this afternoon!”
“I don’t know if I want to waste the rest of my days working, but I’ll need to do something, to keep my mind occupied.”
“The starting salary is eighteen dollars an hour, but you’ll get a dollar raise every five months. You’ll be making the big bucks in no time.”
“I’ll be there. Don’t worry about a thing!”
