Tense with thick silent green
Capping aloof and wedded hills
Matching grim distance
With maternity ward courage
Humming of untouched mystique
Sustained in love, in hatred
In narrow-mindedness, yet in sacredness
Carpeting graceful and graceless
Slopes, in timid choice
From hesitant minds
Into hostile and welcoming valleys
Sustained by a certain mystique,
Ancient disdain against intrusion,
Against coming to go, coming
To stay, against
Mockery of daily accolades, Virginity,
Solid before busy eyes
Scary before exhausted folks
Wary before roving harlots
Yet sustained by bounties
In bound regenerations
But must yield before
Bold embrace of intruding life
Or to death, Virginity !

About the Book
In writing poetry- especially this collection- ANGUISHED ECHOES -I am influenced by the perception that man is caught in a struggle with his own fear, pain, losses , mischievous surprises of Fate combined with the inhuman machinations of his kind to undo his Freewill. As man is cast on this solitary journey that must ultimately lead him to ash, dust or grave his compassion and his sense of sacrifice become even more profound. His storied redemption, that object of struggle between good and evil, produces conflicts that he must deal with or bear as he journeys on.
These varied conflicts are hardly complete without their weird yet rich trappings.The nuances of physical and psychological conflicts are certainly delicate to capture by all seasoned and unseasoned poets alike. ANGUISHED ECHOES attempts this task boldly.Each poem -from beginning to the end-is part of that unwitting journey that has a shifting yet exciting aeshtetic destination.Each attempt at meaning- whatever that means- is both illusory and fulfilling.Some poems may dubiously yield to logical interpretation or explanation. Others serve to dig deeper into that ethreal journey, marking it as yet a way to denote meaning- if you will.I am enthralled to read again and again some poems like "Self" ,"The street is Empty" ,"We followed the Street", " When I behold ( a thing of Beauty) " among many other poems in this collection .Dont ask me why. Find out.

Born in Umuahia, Abia State in Nigeria, Christopher N. Nwachukwu graduated from Imo State University Okigwe ,Nigeria in 1991 where he majored in English Language and English Literature.His Undergraduate Essay was: Post- and Pre- War German Spirit In Thomas Mann`s Magic Mountain. - a book that resonates with conflicts. He was actively involved in the organization and struggle of pro-democrasy movements in Nigeria during and after his undergraduate years He became a post-graduate student of Management (MBA)at RUST - River State University of Science and Technology , Nigeria between 1996 to 1998 which he abandoned because of the political conflicts in Nigeria.He moved to Brasil in 1998.He took a post-graduate Teaching Certificate Course at ACBEU,Salvador -Bahia in Brasil and won the 1998 ACBEU POETRY CONTEST. He now lives in Sao Paulo ,Brasil where he manages a small-scale business outfit and teaches English at Roche and EDS,a HP company.
