About the Book

I wanted to share with you the reasons for writing in the context that I have. I never wanted to write a step by step account of the act of abuse. I applaud others who have as this is a very courageous thing to do, and the more people who speak out the more this awful act will come to light. I wanted to express the pure emotion that is attached to the act of sexual abuse. Any kind of abuse will bring up most of these feelings that I have written about. I could have written about the act and changed my name. I didn’t ever want to do that, I wanted everyone to see a person who is here and now. I wanted to show everyone the damage and destruction involved in abuse. I want to show my painful journey in its raw form. It is my eyes on the front cover of my book. I am the little girl on the front cover. This was about the age that my abuse started, and it is my picture on the back cover. It makes it so much more personal and has a bigger impact when you can identify a face to the pain. I have no shame and I will always put my name and face to any aspect of this subject.

About the Author

My name is Lisa Iles; I am a 39 year old woman. I suffered sexual abuse from the age of 18 months until I was 9 years old, by a neighbour. As a result of the abuse my life was filled with: pain, trauma, destruction, isolation, no self-worth and total turmoil. I wanted to express the raw feelings and emotions that are felt on a day to day basis. I have dealt with my abuse now and i'v worked hard to move forward and change my life, to have a great future. I have studied for nearly 5 years to become a Psychosexual counsellor. Along with my personal and professional knowledge and experiences,  I hope to help others to find their own beginning, middle and end to their abuse. It has been one of the hardest and most fulfilling journeys I have experienced in my life. This book is an insight into the pain and elation I have felt throughout. The whole story is there in poetry, phrases and genres. This is a portrait of my journey so far. There really is a life out there for you beyond abuse. I have found mine and it feels amazing. I hope by bearing my soul it may help everyone to understand the destruction that is involved in abuse of any nature. "Hold your head up high, the shame belongs to your abuser, its not yours".
