Approaching the protective wall of Cinnamon Towne, Queen Beatrice cautiously inched toward the top of the fence. Once there, she slowly peeked over the edge and surveyed the area. There were only a few guards stationed in the courtyard, just as she thought. Gumbo was looking off into the distance in another direction. Now was the time!
With a wave of her hand, she signaled for her troops to begin their attack.
Jack noticed the signal and quickly motioned for his platoon of yellowjackets to make their way to the far end of Cinnamon Towne. Hundreds of flying yellow soldiers quietly circled around the borders of the town. In the center of the swarm, there was a group of ’jackets who were assigned the job of carrying a large red lollipop treetop.
Willie ordered his followers to quietly make their way to where the queen was. They had to fly more slowly than normal so that their wings would not make the humming noise and alert Gumbo and the Gingerbread Guards of their approach. Once they reached the wall, they waited until Jack’s squadron was in place.
The uneasy silence seemed to last forever. Finally, Queen Beatrice motioned widely with both of her arms for the attack to begin.
The yellowjackets were the first to make their way over the walls of Cinnamon Towne. They immediately swarmed around Gumbo.
Hearing the loud buzz of the insects, the large bear awoke from his daydream and turned around. But it was too late. The ’jackets had already started circling him with strands of black licorice ropes. Within seconds, Gumbo was tied up like a calf at a rodeo and fell to the ground. The squad that carried the large, red lollipop treetop managed to stuff it into the bear’s mouth. Now, Gumbo had no way of calling out to warn the others. He lied there like a pig with an apple in its mouth as he struggled to free himself from the ropes.
While that was happening, Willie’s troops were scurrying about, capturing the Gingerbread Soldiers and securing the courtyard.
Queen Beatrice confidently watched her followers begin the takeover of the Gingerbread Kingdom from high above. She smiled smugly.
Once all of the guards were firmly tied up with licorice ropes, Queen Beatrice fluttered her wings, spread out her arms, and cackled like a lunatic as she hovered above everyone.
“Victory will be mine!” she screamed.
Hearing those words, Jack flew over to the doorway that led into the castle and kicked it in. With a loud cheer, the Stingers recklessly rushed into the castle. No one could stop them now.
